Amir aan Scipio was born in the village of Eital on the edge of the Estersand Desert in Dalmasca to Gallus rem Scipio of the IVth Legion and Nadia Gamal a Dalmascan Hyur. The village's location en route to the capital made it a prime refueling station for the Garleans in the area, and a dumping ground for broken machina. From birth, Amir was fixated on the machines that littered his home and with his father's teachings began working on them for spare coin. Many of the soldiers found the child's interest to be a boon, and while others found him to be a nuisance, his father saw his talent for what it was - a prodigy in the making.
Despite Garlean rule, Amir and his mother lived relatively normal lives; his father's influence kept them out of trouble to ensure their support with the Empire.Until the rebellion.
Dalmascans were a proud lot and they refused to take Garlean rule sitting down. After a series of attempts to overthrow the Garleans, the capital city was laid to waste and the surviving rebels fleeing across the country. Despite Eital's relative isolation, it was not safe from the uprising; many villagers supporting the rebellions. Fearing more violence, Gallus's Legion was told to sweep through the neighboring villages, executing anyone they believed to be a rebel fighter or otherwise suspicious. It was then, Gallus made the decision that his family could not stay in Dalmasca. Breaking orders, he told Nadia and Amir about the Legion's plan, smuggling them both onboard the next airship leaving the province.Unfortunately, Gallus was unable to follow. He had put his Legion at risk and paid the price in blood. The villagers knew of the orders and fought back taking the soldiers by surprise. Upon discovering that it was Gallus who leaked the information to the villagers, he was charged with insubordination. He had told Amir and Nadia before the ship took off, that when the region settled down he would return to the capital and attempt to get Amir citizenship. They never heard from Gallus again, his fate unknown.

Though promised a better life in the safety of the capital, better did not mean easy. The life of a Garlean non-citizen- especially one from a notoriously rebellious province- was as cold as the snowfall. Amir and his mother were treated like outcasts. Despite his father pulling the strings from a distance to aid them, it was incredibly difficult to adapt. Amir was enrolled in the Magitek Academy, hoping that becoming an official engineer would improve their life somewhat.Unfortunately, he was bullied mercilessly during his time there. Amir had always been 'quirky', but the ridged requirements and societal norms were taking their toll on his health. He tried his best, being top of his class until he made the decision to drop out in his last year. It was a combination of harassment from his fellow peers, the harsh teachings from his professors and not wanting a role in the military after graduation that made his decision - he didn't want to build war machines. But for the first time, fate was merciful. With all the technicians working on military projects, there was a hole in civilian tech that needed to be filled and Amir jumped at the opportunity. Though aans were paid less compared to citizens, Amir had struck gold.He needed to get his hands dirty again and with this job, he would be able to help people without betraying his rapidly developing anti-war beliefs. In this job, he thrived. Though the hours were long and the work was hard, he was eventually able to support both he and his mother. For the first time since coming to Garlemald, Amir felt like he was in his element. He was genuinely happy and all seemed well.Until it wasn't. Happiness is a fleeting thing. While working on a security update, he discovered an exploit in the system. The rabbit hole went deep, far deeper than Amir was comfortable with and he immediately told his superiors. The exploit, if pressed hard enough could break into government and military systems. if an enemy of the state were to break into the system, it could destabilize and do a lot of damage. Unfortunately, his superior did not believe the exploit was that bad and blamed Amir's jitters as mere paranoia. He was told to leave it be. But Amir couldn't. This was far too big to leave open, and in his impulsive mind, there was only one way to fix it. He hacked the system the prove his point. His point was made, in the form of armed military breaking down his apartment door.

Normally, a perceived threat to national security would be executed, but Amir's timing was either a blessing or a curse. He wasn't sure. Elsewhere, experiments with synthetic Auracite were in full-swing and Ultima Weapon prototypes were in production. Experimenting with memories was incredibly dangerous, oversoul technology killing those who use it. They couldn't test it on their own, they needed bodies that were 'disposable' and by making himself known to the government, Amir had unwillingly 'signed up'.Slaves, prisoners of war and non-citizens from the provinces were brought in to a location somewhere in the mountains around Garlemald and had synthetic Auracite implanted in their bodies. Garleans fed the Auracite memories and watched as the Auracite began to consume their bodies. It was an...unexpected side effect, but upon noticing that the changes physically resembled the Ultima Weapons, the project changed. They would create miniature versions of Ultima. What could the barbarians possibly do against a literal army of eikon-powered war machina?Over the course of years, being fed eikon aether, being tempered and refreshing of the memories took their toll on the test subjects. Their numbers began to plummet, whether by simply 'vanishing', their bodies becoming twisted and mutated by the aether exposure, or having to be put down for losing their minds. Amir, now codenamed "Jade Weapon" held on as long as he could, even when the lightning aether burned his skin and the Auracite devoured him from the inside out. A Hyurian body is not designed to be a conduit for electricity, he couldn't control it - his lightning lashing out and killing numerous test subjects and scientists. When Ruby was destroyed, the scientists began to panic. Fearing that the Alliance was on their doorstep and funding being taken away, the subjects were repeatedly moved from facility to facility; their desperation becoming more and more noticeable. Then, the WoL had destroyed Diamond Weapon. Valens van Varro was dead. The program was in tatters and fearing that the enemies would discover the research, destroyed the data, abandoned the laboratory... and the test subjects inside. Power and water cut off, the disposable test subjects were left to die, and they did.But by some miracle, Amir held on. When the screams went quiet, he broke himself free, eventually finding a way to escape the facility entirely. For the first time in six years, since before the Calamity, he was free. With nothing but the lightning and adrenaline in his blood, he ventured naked as the day he was born into the mountains. To freedom... or to death?

He should have died. The mountains surrounding Garlemald were a cold and unforgiving clime, claiming the lives of even those who attacked them fully prepared. A starved and tired man never should have gone to sleep and woke up to the sunrise. Even as he oversouled to keep himself alive, the lightning burning his skin, the elements of nature are neither kind nor gentle. Yet somehow he persisted, staggering through the mountain range until his body could carry him no further. He should have died.
His near lifeless body was pulled out of the snow by the Eorzean Alliance. They could tell by the state of him that he was not a soldier, and when he awoke he told them his story. He should have been afraid, these were the enemy; these were the people he was supposed to hate. But instead they fed and clothed him. They seemed sympathetic to his plight, but were unsure of what to do with him. They moved him to the Lochs where the Alliance was studying the remains of the Ultimas. They were curious about his auracite, poked and prodded him for information but he accepted the pestering. They were horrified by what they heard, realizing the project had gone further than they had first thought. He felt safe. He felt a Hyur again, people calling him by name and checking in on him. He didn't feel like a burden. But safety is a fleeting thing.
He was attacked one night. He wasn't sure if it was an Eorzean who saw him as a threat, or a Garlean who had discovered one of the test subjects escaped. He ended up killing the assailant in panic and it was then he realized that he couldn't stay. He saw himself as a monster and a threat to the people who helped him. He left without another word, vanishing silently into the night.Until one day a curious and eccentric fellow with strange markings on his skin showed up under the boughs of Gridania. He said his name was Amir Beckett and that he was a traveler.
